18 houses gutted in fire at Bru refugee camps in Tripura

At least 18 houses were gutted in a massive fire that broke out at the Hampsapara Bru camp in Tripura’s Panisagar subdivision on Sunday.

Affected families have been shifted to safety. As per reports, Tripura police and local administration have provided the necessary help.

The cause of the fire is believed to be an electric short circuit. Further details awaited.

The Bru or Reang is a community indigenous to Northeast India, living mostly in Tripura and Mizoram.

Thousands of internally displaced have been residing in relief camps in northern Tripura since the late nineties.

The relief camp at Hampsapara houses members of the Bru community.

Efforts are being made by the government to repatriate Bru refugees who migrated from Mizoram to Tripura.
