2 arrested for defacing hoardings in Assamese



Cachar Police has arrested 2 members of the All Bengali Students Youth Organisation (ABSYO) for their involvement in defacing government hoardings in the Assamese language.

The ABSYO members, who were arrested on Tuesday, have been identified as Raju Deb and Samar Das.

A media report quoted Cachar superintendent of police Ramandeep Kaur as saying that both the youth activists were arrested in the evening on Tuesday and the investigation is still going on.

A number of hoardings of government advertisements were recently defaced by the members of Barak Democratic Youth Front (BDYF) and All Bengali Students Youth Organisation (ABSYO) in Silchar.

The incident drew massive reactions across the state and several organisations including the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) demanded action against those involved in the act.

On Tuesday. Pradip Dutta Roy, the founder of Barak Democratic Front, was summoned by the Cachar superintendent of police.

The Cachar police chief quizzed him for two hours after which he released a statement mentioning it was not in their planned programme to deface the hoardings and it was done without his consent.
