At least nine people were killed and 20 others were injured in a fire that broke out in a stationary train compartment near Madurai railway station in Tamil Nadu early on August 26. As per the officials, an “illegal” gas cylinder used by passengers led to the fire. The firefighters were rushed to douse the flames; however, they had engulfed several people by then. All the deceased passengers hailed from Uttar Pradesh and were part of a religious trip. The tour turned into a lifetime nightmare,” said a traveller who lost his wife.
