Germany and Lithuania chalk out a mega-deployment plan near the Russian state border. Berlin has planned to send as many as 4,000 troops to NATO ally Lithuania. This includes around 1,500 German troops as part of a NATO battlegroup. Move has been termed a show of “solidarity and responsibility in the east wing.” Lithuania, where German troops will be deployed, shares a border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region. Kaliningrad is strategically crucial for Russia as it is surrounded by NATO states. More information is in this report.
