The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Friday launched a frontal attack on the incumbent BJP and pressed the saffron party to clarify its stand on six crucial questions linked to the Citizenship Amendment Act, CAA.
“BJP needs to tell us if CAA benefits Assamese people or hurts them?” asked Ripun Bora, the APCC President. Bora had already announced that Congress will not implement CAA and in fact will build a Martyrs’ memorial to commemorate the sacrifices of anti-CAA protestors.
The Congress Campaign Committee Chairman, Pradyut Bordoloi fired a salvo at the Home Minister Amit Shah asking him to come clear on CAA.
“Can Amit Shah please clarify if CAA will be implemented all-India or only in Bengal?” asked Bordoloi, whose question assumes significance as BJP is aggressively campaigning for CAA in Bengal elections.
“Very simple question, does the BJP think CAA is in favour of Assamese people?” asked Gaurav Gogoi, the Chairman of Congress Manifesto Committee.
The Congress Publicity Committee Chairman, Rakibul Hussain strongly attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked, “Does the Assam BJP think that its stand on CAA is in conformity with its pitch for Jati, Mati, Bheti?” Modi in his campaign narrative has vowed that BJP is committed to secure Jati, Mati, Bheti of Assam.
“Why is the BJP pretending that CAA will not be implemented in Assam when its rules were framed in July?” asked Congress Legislature Party Leader Debabrata Saikia.
“Does BJP think that CAA will not violate provisions of the Assam Accord?” asked Abdul Khaleque, the Chairman of Congress Media and Communication cell.
