Acting on a tip-off, Border Guards Bsngladesh (BGB) personnel seized a large consignment of Yaba tablets that was being smuggled from Myanmar on the night of Tuesday.
A special patrol of from BGB”s Kharangkhali camp rushed to the area, says Lt. Col. Mohammad Faisal Hasan Khan, PSC ,Commander of Teknaf Battalion Border Guard of B’desh (BGB).
The BGB patrol spotted two Yaba traders on the route from Myanmar entering Bangladesh on the banks of the Naff River in a hand-rowed wooden boat. When the boat came to the river bank, the patrol challenged them, Hasan told Easternlink.
He said that when the smugglers noticed the presence of the BGB patrol , they tried to flee to Myanmar by unloading the boat.
Immediately after the patrol chased them, the smugglers jumped out of the boat, swam across the zero line and into the interior of Myanmar.
The patrol team later rescued the yaba smugglers’ boat from the spot, Hasan said . He said BGB seized the boat and recovered 2,30,000 (two lakh and thirty thousand) pieces of yaba tablets .
The boat has been deposited at the Hnila customs warehouse, Hasan said.
Subsequent night raids were carried out in the area and along the river bank to nab the yaba traders, but without success .
