The BSF has recovered a huge cache of illegal weapons in Mizoram.
Kuldeep Singh, DIG, BSF launched an intensive search based on inputs received from field intelligence unit of SHQ, BSF, Udaipur (Tripura) in and around Aizawl.
A team of 90 Bn BSF led by Shri Pillai, Second-in-Command/Officiating Commandant apprehended 3 Mizos from two light vehicles at a highway checkpoint this week.
The border guards recovered 28 AK 47 rifles, one AK 56 & one AK 74 rifles, one .32 bore Gun, 5 magazines, 4491 rounds, Rs. 39020/- cash & other materials.
This is the biggest seizure of illegal weapons in Mizoram since a massive seizure in 2013 near Lenghpui airport , 38 kms from Aizawl, when 34 AK-47 rifles were seized.
Bangladesh intelligence has alleged that Mizoram, an otherwise peaceful state, sits on a thriving arms route connecting suppliers in Myanmar and users in Bangladesh specially Chittagong Hills Tracts.
Indian intelligence says these weapons could be meant for northeast Indian rebel groups and Maoist rebels in central India.
