Burmese Military Shuts Down Mizzima TV

Mizzima TV is seeking support from the democratic countries

The Myanmar military which took over power by force from the elected government has shut down the Free-To-Air Mizzima TV channel since February 1, 2021.

It clearly violated the agreement signed between Ministry of Information (Myanma Radio and Television) and Mizzima Media Company Limited three years ago today for broadcasting Free-To-Air Digital Mizzima TV channel in Myanmar.

Mizzima TV channel, which was ranked top 3 in Myanmar before the coup, is currently available only through Satellite Dishes (PSI Dish) for the people in Myanmar, daily providing independent news and information from 6 am to 12 midnight.

I am very proud of the Mizzima team members who are working tirelessly, taking risks in their lives under the military regime in Myanmar.

Mizzima seeks support from the peoples and governments of the democratic countries around the world to continue to broadcast in Myanmar.

( Easternlink editorial director Subir Bhaumik, who worked as Consulting Editor in Mizzima, fully endorsed Soe Myint’s Appeal because Mizzima TV started operations after an agreement with the government and the military has no business to renege on the agreement)
