Amid the ongoing military stand-off between India and China along the border, China has started building new highways and roads and deploying missile and rocket regiments near eastern Ladakh, as per sources.
HIGHWAYS FOR CONNECTIVITY
“The Chinese Army has started building new highways in the Aksai Chin area opposite the eastern Ladakh sector. Their connectivity as well as the response time to reach the Line of Actual Control is much shorter than ever before,” top sources told India Today.
According to sources, China’s military infrastructure upgrade is significant as they are widening highways and constructing new air strips, apart from the main bases in Kashgar, Gar Gunsa and Hotan.
DEPLOYMENT OF MISSILE REGIMENTS
The missile and rocket regiments of the Chinese Army have been deployed in greater numbers in the rear locations in Tibet Autonomous Region and camouflaged shelters have been built there, sources said. The deployment of drones for surveillance has also purportedly increased.
The Chinese Army’s attempt at recruiting Tibetans and basing them at the border posts along with the mainland Han troops is also gaining speed, sources said. China wants to use the ‘sons of the soil’ to man the difficult terrain where survival has been tough for mainland troops.
‘CHINA MUCH BETTER PREPARED THIS YEAR’
When compared with last winter, the Chinese are much better prepared this year in terms of shelter, road connectivity and acclimatisation, as per sources.
