In a shocking incident, Chief Justice of India Sharad Bobde’s mother was duped of Rs 2.5 crore in Nagpur, reported wire agency UNI.
The news agency said that the police had registered an FIR in the case and arrested one Tapas Ghosh for his alleged involvement in the fraud.
Reports said that the Bobde family owns Seasons Lawn, a property in an upscale part of Nagpur city. Mukta Bobde, the CJI’s mother, is the legal owner of the property which is rented out for wedding ceremonies and other programmes.
Tapas Ghosh was appointed as the caretaker of the property a decade ago and police say that Ghosh and his spouse did not deposit all the amount collected from renting out the lawns. Taking advantage of the CJI’s mother’s old age and trust, the Ghosh couple continued to siphon off money through forged receipts.
However, a few days ago the fraud came to light when Mrs Bobde realised that Ghosh seemed to have been duping her for many years by not depositing the entire money earned through rent.
The Bobde family informed the police about the case. The cops upon investigation found that Ghosh had defrauded Mukta Bobde to the extent of over Rs 2.5 crore.
Nagpur Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar said that Tapas Ghosh was arrested under relevant sections of IPC, on the basis of the FIR. Ghosh will be produced before the court where the police will ask that he be remanded to their custody remand.
