Kathmandu: In what appears to be yet another disregard of sovereignty of other countries, Chinese security personnel on Saturday fired tear gas shells at a Nepali inspection team in Namkha area of Humla district.

The Nepali team had come to monitor border pillars, vice-chairperson of the Namkha village municipality Pena Lama said.

Lama said that the Chinese personnel fired while the team was monitoring the border pillars, according to a report by local publication Khabarhub on Friday.

The tear gas was fired near pillar no 9 along the border when the team was returning from the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th pillars.

The development comes after Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied claims of land encroachment by China in the same district contrary to the allegations levelled by locals.

The Foreign Ministry said in a press release that the recent construction of a building by China fell on the Chinese side and not on the Nepalese side as was earlier claimed by locals.

“The Department of Survey, Government of Nepal, based on the official records, reports of the joint field inspection and boundary maps, has verified and confirmed that the said buildings are not located within the Nepali territory,” the Nepalese foreign ministry said.
