The District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO) of Assam’s Goalpara, Pranab Kumar Das, was drugged and left to die while travelling on an intercity train on Friday evening.

The Assam government official, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) on Saturday morning by his family members, is yet to regain his consciousness.

Sources claimed the Guwahati Railway Police (GRP) is refusing to file an FIR saying that they need to meet him in person.

According to sources, the district information and public relations officer on November 12 was travelling from Goalpara to his residence at Dwarakanagar in Guwahati on the New Bongaigaon-Guwahati Express.

He was supposed to reach the Guwahati railway station at 9:30 pm on Friday.

But as he did not arrive at home till 8 am on Saturday, the officer’s family members reached the Guwahati railway station in search of him.

They found information and public relations officer Pranab Kumar Das at the railway station in an unconscious state.

Miscreants looted his gold ring, money bag, ATM card, Voter card, his wife’s Voter card and a gold chain.

His family members have alleged that the Government Railway Police in Guwahati station has tried to cover up the entire incident.

He was rushed to the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital where he is undergoing treatment in the ICU.

The officer is still in an unconscious state due to drugging.

Sources said, “The family members of the officer have filed an FIR with the Government railway police in Guwahati railway station. The FIR was accepted by Government railway police officer Arup Deka, but no case has been registered so far.”

When asked about the incident, the director of the department of information and public relations, Bishnu Kamal Barua, said he was not aware of it.
