A team of scientists from ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak (ICAR-NRC on Yak) at Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh conducted an awareness programme at Naga grazing grounds on Saturday.

A total of 21 tribal yak farmers from different villages including Barchipam, Sagar, Dirang and Lubrang attended the event.

The yak farmers were sensitized about the tick and tick-borne diseases of yak.

Dr. Joken Bam, the coordinator of the programme and scientist, ICAR-NRC on Yak, informed the Brokpas about the symptoms of bovine Babesiosis in yaks.

Dr Bam also spoke at length about the treatment and recommended prophylactic measures to prevent bovine Babesiosis in yaks.

Dr. Aneet Kour, associate and scientist, ICAR-NRC on Yak, laid emphasis on the importance of hygienic measures for preventing diseases including Covid19 pandemic and for promoting clean milk production, said a press statement.

Concentrate feed for yaks and salt were also distributed to the Brokpas.

All the farmers expressed their gratitude and appreciation towards the Director, ICAR-NRC on Yak, Dr. Mihir Sarkar for relentlessly supporting them with inputs as well as scientific information.
