Tamulpur Police arrested the main culprit involved in the Darangamela murder that took place on October 9 at Sashipur village along the Indo-Bhutan border in Baksa district.
In Sashipur village along the Indo-Bhutan border, a man identified as Gosai Biswas was strangled to death and his body was recovered near his house.
The body of Gosai Biswas was recovered on October 10 morning by locals.
An investigation was launched by Tamulpur Sub-division Police Officer (SDPO) Rupjyoti Kalita in connection with the incident.
Tamulpur SDPO Rupjyoti Kalita along with the in-charge of Kumarikata police outpost Neelabhjyoti Nath and in-charge of Darangamela police outpost Gopal Doley carried out a raid at Angarakata Hajongbosti in Kumarikata on Monday night.
During the raid on Monday night, the police arrested 45-year-old Jagbandhu Mandal, the main culprit of the murder.
Police later arrested the deceased’s wife Himani Biswas on the basis of Mandal’s statement.
Gosai Biswas, a businessman, was a resident of Mayong in Morigain district and he had been living with his family in Sashipur village along the Indo-Bhutan border.
The police team also recovered the sharp weapon used in the murder.
Locals suspect that the murder took place as a consequence of a love affair between Jagbandhu Mandal and the victim’s wife.
Both Jagbandhu and Himani were sent to jail after they were produced before the court of the judicial magistrate in Baksa district of Muslimpur on Tuesday.
