A new Indian High commissioner will take over in Dhaka.
The present incumbent, Ms Riva Das Ganguly is slated to join in a more senior position in the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi. The choice has narrowed between two seasoned diplomats: Mr. Vinay Kumar, now Indian Ambassador in Afghanistan, and Mrs. Renat Sandhu, the current Indian Ambassador to Italy. Neither have any previous experience of working in Bangladesh. Married to Mr. Taranjit Singh Sandhu serving at Indian Embassy in Washington, Mrs Sandhu joined the Foreign service in 1989. She has served earlier in Indian Embassies at Moscow, Kiev, Washington, Colombo, New York and Geneva. Mr, Kumar entered the IFS is 1992 and has worked out of Tashkent, Ottawa, Warsaw, Teheran, New York, and Kathmandu. In case Mrs Sandhu replaces Ms Ganguly , she will be the third female Indian High Commissioner to work in Dhaka after Veena Sikri and Riva Ganguly Das.
