As the Chinese Communist Party celebrated its 99th anniversary, the SFT-India team unfurled a giant banner (30 by 50 feet) in Dharamsala, India with the message that read ‘Tibet’s Independence, India’s Security.’
With the recent skirmishes between the Indian and Chinese militaries, bold and courageous actions taken at strategic times within geopolitically significant regions can play a major role in educating more allies and advancing the Tibetan struggle.
As Rinzin Choedon, SFT-India’s Director, said: “By befriending China and ignoring the issue of Tibet’s occupation, India has jeopardized national security. It is now time for the India government to correct the errors of the past and to take a lead in finding a solution to the Tibet situation; which starts with the border between Tibet and India.”
Meanwhile, across the Atlantic Ocean, renowned Tibetan activist and former political prisoner, Tawu Lobsang Jinpa la, biked hundreds of miles from Boston, MA to the nation’s capital, Washington D.C., to raise awareness about Tibet’s occupation. He is steadfast in his goal to help free His Holiness the Panchen Lama and the many Tibetans from his hometown who are still in Chinese prisons. You can read more about his action and advocacy.
SFT has always been committed to amplifying and prioritizing the voices of Tibetans inside of Tibet. That is why I was honored to help organize and participate in a meeting with Tawu Lobsang Jinpa la and Congressman Jim McGovern. As a Tibetan-American, it is always so inspiring to work with human rights defenders and activists such as Tawu Lobsang Jinpa la and see firsthand how effective their advocacy efforts are.
