A fierce ambush by the guerrillas of the Arakan Army has left three Burmese border guards dead and one civilian dead in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
A military spokesman told Easternlink that the ambush at Rathedaung has also left four police personnel and one civilian injured.
The attack was launched in Rathedaung township in the state on Monday evening.
The border guard force received a tip-off that the AA would destroy communication channels being used
by local people on Maungtaw-Angumaw road, said Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun, secretary of Military
True News Information Team.
Police personnel and border guards rushing to the road were ambushed near Kotankauk village.
It seems the AA fighters are trying the time tested tactics of planting some fake information about their movements and then laying in wait to the onrushing securitymen.
This helps them achieve two purposes tactically — draw the forces to where they want to hit them and also discredit the sources of information , without which any counter-insurgency operation is impossible to succeed .
