Waqar Lavishes Praise On Dhoni

After the retirement of the Fab Four of Indian cricket, as well as legends Anil Kumble and Zaheer Khan in the twilight of their career, MS Dhoni, had his task cut-out as a captain to ensure that the transition phase is smooth.

And Dhoni did so with his astute leadership skills and brilliant cricketing mind. Under Dhoni, India won the 2007 T20 World Cup, ICC Test Maze in 2008, 2011 ICC World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy, which interestingly is the last ICC title won by the ‘Men in Blue’.

Moreover, that is only one facet of his game from which the Indian team benefitted the most in the last decade and a half.

With his lightning stumpings, run-outs, and as a reliable catching option, Dhoni turned out to be the best wicketkeeper in the world.

Further, Dhoni’s batting prowesses had a separate set of achievements, compiling over 10,000 runs in ODI cricket while coming in at five and six throughout his career.

However, it was Dhoni’s ability to finish matches for India, winning the game with a maximum, which earned him global respect as a batsman.

Now, former Pakistan fast bowler and coach, Waqar Younis, has heaped praises on ‘Captain Cool’, who celebrated his 39th birthday on Tuesday (July 07).

“Sourav Ganguly was the one who started that journey of improvement for Indian cricket and MS Dhoni took that journey ahead. He is a World Cup champion and has won two World Cups. I think he has done wonderfully well for himself, for his country, and of course, for his family,” Younis told GloFans during a chat show named `Q20` on Twitter.

“What a cricketer MS Dhoni is. The way he led the team, it is difficult to express it in words. He is a very good and big leader who understands things. He is a wonderful human being and coming from a small village and the heights he has achieved plus leading such a big country and team is indeed praiseworthy,” he concluded.
