They are the ‘Mothers’. They represent “Nari Shakti” in real sense.

Their time-tested contribution to the community in organising Durgotsab has a meaningful journey at Pandu, one of the railway townships of the Guwahati city.

“As an all-women puja committee, we have been organising Durga Puja for the last eight (8) years. And with the grace of the Ma Durga, we have been successful in it.” – told Soma Choudhury, vice president of BBC Colony Big Field Mahila Durga Puja & Kalipuja Committee.

Remarkably, with very low-profile representation, away from the so-called super puja projections, the all women group of BBC Colony at Pandu has been successfully organising both Durga and Kali Puja in the area for the last eight years.

Since establishment of railway colonies with various staff quarters for the NF Railway employees in Guwahati, Durga Puja became the most important festival here.

Interestingly in 2013, to carry forward the tradition of “Durgotsab”, the housewives along with few working women cum entrepreneurs of the locality came forward to take the responsibility to continue the festival involving each and every family of the small clustered locality.

And since then, the All-Women Puja Committee is organising the Durga Puja at BBC Colony Big Field.

“If the women of the community come forward to do something good then nothing is impossible. We have been conducting this puja for the last eight years.” reacts Sushmita Paul, Secretary of the puja committee.

Apart from being one of the special Durga Puja Committees of Guwahati, BBC Colony Big Field has also brought some special attraction for the devotees in the pandemic hit city.

The idol of Durga is projected as the saviour of COVID-19. The image shows that Mother goddess with her divine “Trishul” designed as a huge “Syringe” is taking down “Mahisashura”, who is none than “Corona virus”.
